Richard Holevas, MD, FACS
Urologist

Dr. Holevas, a Board Certified Urologist is Chairman of Urology at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach. He has been in practice since 1984 and has a special interest in the treatment of Male Infertility. He has been a member of the WCFC Team since 1998 and performs advanced fertility enhancing procedures to treat blockage of the sperm ducts, cases of very low sperm counts, aspiration of sperm called PESA and TESE.

Doug Han, MD
Anesthesiologist

Dr. Han  has been a practicing Anesthesiologist since 1973 and has provided anesthesia services to infertility patients for 10 years. He graduated from Seoul National University and speaks fluent Korean. He completed his postgraduate residency training at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He was appointed Instructor in anesthesiology at the New York Medical College and Beth Israel Medical Center. Dr. Han and his team provide personalized anesthesia services with safety and comfort as their main goals. He enjoys the uniqueness of working at West Coast Fertility Centers, participating in the creation of a new life.

Antoine La, TS, ELD, EMB
Embryology Laboratory Director

Antoine La is Director of West Coast Fertility Center's Embryology Laboratory. Mr. La is a highly experienced embryologist and scientist. His primary areas of responsibility and specialization include; IVF, GIFT, ZIFT, PESA, Embryo Biopsy, FISH, micromanipulation, ICSI, assisted hatching, embryo freezing and thawing, egg freezing, sperm freezing, preparation of epididymal sperm for ICSI, epididymal sperm freezing and testicular sperm preparation.

As a scientist and researcher, Mr. La has pioneered the development of culture medium allowing for the successful freezing and thawing of human eggs. Mr. La has primary responsibility to ensure that all state and federal regulations are adhered to. Mr. La holds a Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry from the University of California, Irvine 

M. Cristina Rodriguez-Karl, BA
Senior Embryologist

Cristina Rodriguez-Karl is a Senior Embryologist with 15 years of experience with West Coast Fertility Centers. Ms. Karl holds a B.A. in Biological Sciences from California State University, Fullerton. Ms. Karl performs specialized embryology procedures, including the identification and classification of oocytes, evaluation of normal and abnormal fertilization, evaluation of embryo quality, photomicroscopy of gametes/embryos, as well as embryo transfer, freezing and thawing, and PGD. Ms. Karl also is experienced in sperm evaluations and preparation procedures for IUI, percoll gradient separation, gender selection, semen cryopreservation, and antisperm antibody testing and micromanipulation; e.g., ICSI, assisted hatching. Ms. Karl is member of the American Association of Bioanalysts and The American Society for Reproductive Medicine. 

Leena K. Dalal, MS, CLS
Gamete Laboratory Supervisor

Leena Dalal is the reproductive Endocrinology Laboratory Supervisor. She is a clinically licensed scientist with 21 years of clinical laboratory experience, including extensive tissue banking experience. Ms. Dalal is responsible for the operations of the laboratories including ensuring licensing and accreditation by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, State of CA Department of Health Services, College of American Pathologists, and several other agencies.

Ms. Dalal operates, maintains, and conducts comprehensive andrology testing including sperm preparation for IUI, sex selection procedure, sperm cryopreservation, and a variety of other advanced tests. She has been instrumental in the development and refinement of new laboratory tests that help with the diagnosis and treatment of male and female infertility. Her work at WCFC led to the development of a test to determine the health of the uterus for embryo implantation.

Ms. Dalal holds a Masters degree in Immunology from Long Beach State University and a BS in Biochemistry. She is licensed by the State of California Clinical Laboratory Scientist. 

Joan Moody, RN, CNP
IVF Coordinator & Administrative Nurse Practitioner

Joan Moody is the IVF Coordinator and Administrative Nurse Practitioner for West Coast Fertility Centers. Ms. Moody has over fifteen years of OB/GYN nursing experience in labor and delivery and post-partum care. Ms. Moody completed her nursing degree at Rancho Santiago College and is California certified as a nurse practitioner.

Infertility treatment can be very stressful, requiring complex testing and extensive interaction with members of the fertility treatment team. Ms. Moody, as Administrative Nurse Practitioner, is instrumental in ensuring that WCFC nurses serve as patient liaisons. As IVF Coordinator, Ms. Moody is responsible for the coordination and planning of the Center's patients. She serves as the patient's case manager and is responsible for all clinical nursing interactions.

Joan has been a nurse for 35 years and has worked at West Coast Fertility Centers for 15 years.  She is a speaker to local GYN physicians on the topics of infertility and fertility preservation for cancer patients. In April 2007, Joan was invited by the Society of Gynecologic Nurse Oncologists to lecture on fertility preservation at the 24th Annual Conference in Atlanta, Georgia.

Maria Ruíz, MA
New Patient Coordinator

Maria Ruiz is a senior IVF coordinator and surgical scheduler for West Coast Fertility Centers. Ms. Ruiz has over 18 years experience in the medical field including clinical patient care in Pediatrics and Assisted Reproduction.

Maria has in-depth knowledge of every aspect of fertility such as nursing, teaching, surgical planning and brings her considerable experience to our patients. Her calm and soothing manner brings comfort to the special needs of our patients when they require extra time and attention. When it comes to medication teaching, she provides reassurance and her excellent communication skills are much appreciated.  She also serves as a mentor to the newer members of our staff. Maria is an expert at counseling our clients about the different financial options available to them. We invite you to speak with her about your financial concerns.

Maritza  Reynoso, MA

Ms. Reynoso is a multi-talented team member at West Coast Fertility Centers, who brings over 22 years experience in the nursing aspects of OB/GYN and Assisted Reproduction.  She is a task oriented individual with a special gift for critical thinking and attention to detail, both crucial in the field of fertility treatment.  She supervises several areas of our center and is the liaison for patients who need egg donation. She works closely with Dr. Diaz and the Scientific Team in the area of our Frozen Egg Bank, advising clients from around the world about their best options for selecting an egg donor.

Rosa Santoyo, MS, LMFT
Psychological Counselor

Rosa M. Santoyo is a bilingual/bicultural Marriage, Family Therapist. She has a Masters' degree in Counseling/Psychology from California State University at Fullerton. She is in private practice in the city of Placentia, CA. She has worked with West Coast Fertility Centers since 1991, conducting psychological interviews with patients and their spouses/partners regarding issues of infertility and the emotional impact/implications on the patient. She also conducts interviews with potential donor egg providers, egg banking candidates, sperm donors and potential surrogates. She deals with marital counseling, issues of depression and stress management.

Beth Torres, MA
Receptionist

Ms. Torres joined WCFC immediately after graduation and has evolved into a talented staff member. She is well organized and efficient, taking great pride in the beautiful appearance of her work area.  She is a real "people person" and team player whose delightful phone manner and melodious voice can bring a smile to everyone she meets. Her cheerful personality provides comfort and understanding to each and every patient. She is a terrific mom and is devoted to her family. We all enjoy working with Beth.

Our team of ultrasound technicians provide efficient and precise services to our patients undergoing IVF. Follicles are measured accurately to provide our staff with important data during IVF monitoring. Our flat screen monitors allow our patients to observe their ultrasound scan to heighten their understanding of IVF. Our lead technician holds a teaching credential and conducts classes for college students learning the art of ultrasonography.

Michael Peckham
Financial Counselor

Mr. Peckham brings his 20 years experience in the medical financial field to us. His role is to communicate with HMO's, indemnity Insurance carriers and medical groups.  Since fertility treatments are rarely covered by insurance plans, Michael goes "above and beyond" to help our patients who are fortunate to have coverage.  His job requires great skill in dealing with third party payers but he feels it is worth it to help our patients whenever he can. For those without insurance benefits, Michael is helpful in recommending a variety of financial options to our clients. 

Mary Alvarez, RN
Post Anesthesia Care Unit

Ms. Alvarez brings has worked for 20 years as a Recovery Room nurse at the University of California Medical Center, St. Joseph Hospital and Fountain Valley Surgery Center. Her special gift is putting patients at ease with her charm and sense of humor. Mary's work experience in the Emergency Department has provided her with the confidence required in our private fertility center.
